Sidewall Coring in Formation Evaluation

There is another method of coring for the rock formation evaluation and it is in fact less expensive than Whole Coring, This method is known as Sidewall Coring. Within the sidewall cores there is percussion core method which uses a steel cylinder which is commonly known as a coring gun,
it has steel bullets with hollow points which are accumulated at the side and are anchored to the gun with the help of a small steel cable. The process takes place by lowering down the coring gun into the interval and the individual rounds are fired as the gun is being pulled out of the hole.

The anchored steel cables yank the hollow bullets out of the wall of the well and make it loose, which allows the gun to bring the rock formation stored in the hollow blanks to the surface. There are a couple of advantages of this particular Geological Equipment. The advantages include that it is lower in cost than the Whole Coring, and another advantage is that the sampling of the rocks can be done even after the drilling has been done. As everything has both the sides positive and negative, the disadvantages of this are that the bullet blanks fired in the whole might be lost due to miscalculation.
