Effectiveness of Permeability

As the Coalbed Methane keeps being produced from the reservoirs it is inevitable that the effective amount of permeability will shift, as there are changes happening within the fluid saturations. It is possible that the absolute permeability might have some significant impact on the effective permeability.
The pore pressure keeps reducing as the matrix of coal expands with the production of CBM from the reservoir in the early stages of the exploration. As the gas keeps being extracted from the coal the coal matrix contracts as a result of it, which ultimately results in the increase of absolute permeability.

There is some Specific Geological equipment used in order to measure and track the changes happening in the absolute permeability. The testing method of tracking the change is known as Pressure-Transient testing. To estimate the absolute permeability of the reservoir, two phase test can be utilized. In this two- phase test curves defining the relativity of the permeability through simulation, analogous fields, or with the help of already published authentic literature. To analyze the well test using the flow with two phases, the pseudo pressure function of degasification of the coal which had been initiated by Kamal and Six can be used.
